Accomplishing Great Things Together

donor-michelle-mann.JPG

We like to pause mid-year and take the opportunity to thank you, our donors, for your generosity. Your support is truly inspiring, not only because of the important work that it enables, but also because your faith in our institution provides great encouragement to our patients, doctors, staff and community.

In practical terms, your support means having the resources to offer in-house grants and scholarships, as well as providing support for capital projects. Thankfully, a strong community backs us. In 2013, more than 1,350 people made a gift to Trinity Foundation and more than 160 of those individuals gave more than $1,000. We want to share with you some of the ways we used your gifts.
Athletic Training Software
Your gifts purchased electronic medical record software for athletic trainers so that medical history for athletes is safe and secure. This software allows trainers to have access to a complete and accurate medical history for all athletes as well as providing an objective assessment for concussion testing that will not give athletes the ability to lie about their symptoms.
History in the Making
Your gifts allowed for the development of a multi-dimensional space, incorporating pictures, facts and artifacts in a timeline display that documents Trinity Regional Medical Center's 120-year history of providing health care. Look for installation of this historical documentation in early September. You will find it across from Trinity Gifts.
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Training
Your gifts provided funding for three nurses to attend a five-day intensive training program at the University of Iowa School of Nursing in Iowa City. These nurses are now trained in forensic evidence collection based upon legal and medical standards. They are also trained in expert witness testimony, strengthening their ability to be a strong patient advocate for sexual assault victims. SANE nurses can help fill in gaps in care and advocacy for our sexual assault patients.
Trinity Foundation has a long and valued history of philanthropy. This history has enabled UnityPoint Health - Fort Dodge to provide new buildings and facilities, access to education, and excellent, compassionate care for you and your family close to home. Generous gifts from our community have changed the way UnityPoint Health - Fort Dodge provides care.

Mindful of how precious resources are today, we are careful to prioritize our commitments so that your gifts are invested wisely and that every dollar you give to Trinity Foundation is used in a cost efficient and effective manner.

Thank you for your gifts. They are critical to our mission and the mission of UnityPoint Health - Fort Dodge. We appreciate the opportunity you give us to help others in need and are grateful for your trust.

A revocable living trust is set up during your lifetime and can be revoked at any time before death. They allow assets held in the trust to pass directly to beneficiaries without probate court proceedings and can also reduce federal estate taxes.

cannot be changed or cancelled

the original value of an asset, such as stock, before its appreciation or depreciation

the growth in value of an asset like stock or real estate since the original purchase

A donor advised fund is an account that you set up but which is managed by a nonprofit organization. You contribute to the account, which grows tax-free. You can recommend how much (and how often) you want to distribute money from that fund to Trinity Foundation or other charities. You cannot direct the gifts.

An endowed gift can create a new endowment or add to an existing endowment. The principal of the endowment is invested and a portion of the principal’s earnings are used each year to support our mission.

Tax on the growth in value of an asset—such as real estate or stock—since its original purchase.

Securities, real estate or any other property having a fair market value greater than its original purchase price.

Real estate can be a personal residence, vacation home, timeshare property, farm, commercial property or undeveloped land.

A charitable remainder trust provides you or other named individuals income each year for life or a period not exceeding 20 years from assets you give to the trust you create.

You give assets to a trust that pays our organization set payments for a number of years, which you choose. The longer the length of time, the better the potential tax savings to you. When the term is up, the remaining trust assets go to you, your family or other beneficiaries you select. This is an excellent way to transfer property to family members at a minimal cost.

You fund this type of trust with cash or appreciated assets—and may qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction when you itemize. You can also make additional gifts; each one also qualifies for a tax deduction. The trust pays you, each year, a variable amount based on a fixed percentage of the fair market value of the trust assets. When the trust terminates, the remaining principal goes to Trinity Foundation as a lump sum.

You fund this trust with cash or appreciated assets—and may qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction when you itemize. Each year the trust pays you or another named individual the same dollar amount you choose at the start. When the trust terminates, the remaining principal goes to Trinity Foundation as a lump sum.

A beneficiary designation clearly identifies how specific assets will be distributed after your death.

A charitable gift annuity involves a simple contract between you and Trinity Foundation where you agree to make a gift to Trinity Foundation and we, in return, agree to pay you (and someone else, if you choose) a fixed amount each year for the rest of your life.
